What scares me most about Brave New World is its sense of inevitability (Mr. The only people who will question it are the ones you want to include in the circles of power, so there's a self-selective and self-renewing structure in place in Brave New World that left me with a feeling of no end in sight. As long as you supply people with food and entertainment (Caesar's "circus and bread") and as long as you seemingly improve their level of luxury, most people don't give a damn about who governs, how and why. Society in Brave New World just relies on basic human nature to achieve its goals. ![]() However, as "vision" of the future, I find Brave New World far more scary and insidious than 1984.ฤก984 is a nightmare society that relies on brutality and extensive surveillance and oppression (and I had the feeling that at some point it'll result in an uprising that can't be crushed). 1984 is hands down the better piece of literature (Orwell could write circles around Huxley). ![]()
